Melbourne: Journal

Another reason to visit the Flinders Lane precinct (do we need any more?) is Journal.  A fantastic bar/cafe joined to the Melbourne City Library with a great atmosphere.  The crowd is a mix of those who want to enjoy a coffee (or sloe gin) with their weekend paper, and those who want catch up with fantastic friends and meet new ones (that one's for you, Andrew and Mark).  Certainly a tried and true Melbourne favourite.

Melbourne: Friends of Mine

Melbourne is sublime.  Period.

Love and I visited a dear friend over the June long weekend and were introduced to Friends of Mine in Richmond.  I am a long breakfast fan.  Long breakfasts can make a weekend, and this breakfast surely did.  Possibly the best breakfast I have had the pleasure of enjoying.  Visit there, you must!

Wine Tasting in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales

Wine tasting this weekend in the Hunter Valley.  Bliss.  The Hunter Valley is a truly spectacular place, and not just because of its semillon.  The landscape is spectacular.  The family vineyards are inviting.  The produce is marvelous.

What strikes me most about this collection of vineyards is the finishing touches.  The flowers, the cushions, the markings and the family pets really make each cellar door experience an intimate exchange with the family whose home you are visiting and whose pride and joy you are tasting.

Enjoy,

Dwell: Made.com

UK design house and online furniture store, Made.com, have a brilliant business plan: pool fresh design talent, make furniture to order, cut out the middleman. Simple.

But their pieces are not simple, they are splendid! Their Bouji range, for example, is a fresh modern take on an old British classic piece that conjures images of taking tea by the fireplace, but in your Christian Louboutins.

Their ambition is to bring 'original design to the masses' by revolutionising the retail furniture market. They claim that by connecting you with the furniture makers directly you save 50 to 80% on high street prices.  Aside from the savings, it is perfect example of environmentally sustainable production.

Who loses? Well, unfortunately Made.com will not ship to Australia... yet.  There is hope, though, so pester, prod and poke the lovely folk at Made.com to get the ball rolling.

New Campaign: Heidi Mount for Samantha Wills

Samantha Wills' success is no secret.  Her 'jewels', as she calls them, are gorgeous and made for a girl who does not shy away from opulence.  She dominates Australia's accessories market with a thriving online presence and her success is certainly visible abroad.

It some ways it is no surprise that Chanel's 'it girl', Heidi Mount, is the face of Wills' new campaign, Portraits of Dusk.  Directed by Fabio Ongarato, Mount is perfect for this campaign, which has a certain air if sophistication about it.  Certainly more understated, whilst retaining that unmistakable glamour that Wills insists every girl should not shy away from, this campaign takes Wills' collection to a new level.
